The term ‘Ling Xing’ was chosen to mean the ‘Ruling   Star.’ The person who carries the ‘Ling Pai’ (the card, usually like a long   rhombus with one end longer than the other) is described as ‘De Ling’ meaning   holding the Ling Pai.
